What weight has this, a lifeless sheet,
A fragile ghost, a fleeting thought?
Its whisper binds where hearts should meet,
Yet love, unbound, cannot be caught.
Thirteen years, an affection well-spun,
What need of seals, of names, of law?
Why cage the rivers as they run,
Or tame the wind that once you saw?
And yet, this paper, pale and thin,
Looms like a shadow, dark, austere.
Its hollow promise folds within
A quiet threat, a lover’s fear.
For love, untethered, breathes and flies,
But under weight might crack, might fall.
Could words on parchment sever ties,
Or build a wall where none should stall?
The heart resists: it flinches still,
Afraid to let the ink decide.
What truth could such a draft fulfil,
If love must yield, if love must hide?
Yet time will speak; its voice is clear,
No mark, no script, can prove the true.
No paper rules what hearts revere,
For love is bound by none but you.
