If We Always Won

What would winning be if we always won
Where would we stand if we were endlessly No. 1
What’s the want to lead from the front?
In knowing I’m unchallenged, where’s the fun?

What would happen if we never overcome
How could I feel a complete unknown?
How could we adapt to being just anyone?
If deprived of status, without income.

What happens when luck turns aside?
Numbers falter, and dreams are denied.
A lottery ticket clutched in a trembling hand,
Success evaporates on a thirsty land.

Grasping for the lifeboat like a drowning man,
Fate slipping away, no steady plan.
What would winning mean if in a fleeting span?
Everything could be lost, and aspirations overran.

What would winning be if we always won,
When triumph is hollow, and the joy is none?
What would happen if we never overcome,
If the struggle for meaning lay silent and dumb?
